A Week of Word Work

This chart contains ideas for K-5 instruction that focuses on strategies for proficient decoding and spelling.

Plus/Delta Chart

This is a t-chart that is used to list strengths (+) and areas for change or growth (on right). (The triangle is the Greek symbol for change.) As you complete a running record, writing evaluation, or even for behavior, use this chart to reflect on the strategies you observed and ones that need to be taught. You can even teach children to fill out Plus/Delta charts.

Literacy Block Lesson Plans for the 1st Week of School

This is a lesson plan that incorporates Daily 5 and Cafe lessons for the 1st week of school. You will see that we only introduce Read to Self the first week. You will also see that strategy lessons can be selected from your district instructional guide or reading textbook. Just remember to add the strategy to the CAFE board (Strategy Board).

Strategy Group Planning form

Student Conference Form

This form is for documenting student conferences. Place a copy of this form in each student's section of the data binder. As you meet with students for 1:1 conferring, record observations and next steps here.

Record of Individual Conferences

This is a form for keeping track of the dates of each 1:1 conferring session conducted with each student. On average, you should confer with each student at least once every 5 days. These sessions last from 3-10 minutes per student. Some students will be met with more often, depending on need. Keep this page in the front of your data binder for easy reference.
