Digital Portfolios
Do your students have their own website? (Yet?)
A portfolio of work is a collection of items that shows competencies and growth. It is assembled over time when students select pieces and reflects on them.
Digital portfolios provide students with access to their work 24/7. They will also have an unlimited audience that can view and comment on the progress and thinking skills of students.
Items to include:
- Compositions
- Video recordings
- Audio recordings
- Graphic Organizers
- Photos
- Presentations
- Blog Posts
Students can use the following sites to create a website to house their digital portfolio:
Wikis-a website that can be easily edited and used for collaborative activities
Students can use the following tech tools to create content or the portfolio:
- Glogster - Photos
- Prezi - Presentations
- Audacity - Audio recordings
- Lucidchart
- ToonDoo - create cartoons
- Animoto - Video slideshows
- Google Docs
- Google Forms (Great for eliciting feedback on the portfolio)
Make a template for students to use. This will include an outline of pages to include in the portfolio. Allow student choice to add additional components.
Be sure to schedule portfolio parties so that students can showcase their digital portfolios at the end of the year or semester.
Remind students that they are establishing a digital footprint that can positively affect their future.
