I Have, Who Has…?

  • Nov. 2, 2010, 5:47 p.m.

Want to play a quick game that builds fluency? I Have, Who Has is the perfect game for warm-ups and repetitive practice. To play, create enough cards for all the students in your class or group. Some students may have 2 cards.

You can use this game for practice with:

  • Math facts
  • High frequency words
  • Vocabulary words
  • Content-related questions and answers

Here are the steps for playing:

  1. Give each student a card with a “I have, Who has…. Statement/question.”
  2. Have the students read the card and think about the question.
  3. Begin the game by having one student read his/her card aloud.
  4. Whoever has the card with the answer on it will read next.
  5. Play continues until the person who began the game hears the question to their “I have…” statement.
  6. You may time the group for fluency with root word knowledge.

I’ve prepared sets of cards for Kindergarten through 8th grade. Each set contains 5 cards so that small groups of students can play as a warm-up for small strategy groups. I hope this makes your teaching life a little easier and increases your students’ achievement!
